FIFA World Cup 2026 Preparations Reach Final Stage Across North America

As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 enters its final weeks, host cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico are completing major preparations for what is expected to be the largest football tournament in history. The competition will feature 48 national teams and 104 matches played across 16 host cities.

Organizers are focusing on stadium readiness, transportation systems, security operations, and fan experiences ahead of the tournament’s opening match in Mexico City on June 11. The historic Mexico City Stadium will become the first venue ever to host three FIFA World Cup opening matches.

Several host cities have launched large-scale fan festivals and public viewing areas designed to welcome millions of visitors. In Los Angeles, officials have announced transportation improvements, dedicated shuttle services, and fan zones that will operate throughout the tournament.

The 2026 edition will be the first FIFA World Cup jointly hosted by three countries and the first to feature an expanded 48-team format. FIFA expects the tournament to break attendance and viewership records worldwide.

Fans are already arriving in several host cities, while teams continue final training camps before the start of the competition. The final match is scheduled to take place on July 19 in the New York–New Jersey area, bringing an end to a month-long celebration of international football.
